Byron Shire had their annual Death & Dying Expo, an initiative originally founded by Death Elder, Zenith Virago. This year Zenith passed the baton to a small group of local volunteers who produced the event.
The free community event offered an opportunity to get curious, ask questions, connect with local suppliers and providers, strengthen community ties, whilst building capacities for death and dying literacy.
It was also an opportunity to learn more about upcoming events and workshops to continue awareness and learning.
In the room were Paperbark Deathcare, Lotus Palliative Care, Wedgetail Retreats, d’Vine Creations, Amitayus Home Hospice - the incredible Threshold Choir (who sang us into absolutely serene places) among many others doing meaningful and vital work. The speaker series shed light on the very many areas of support in our region.
I delivered a speech (with a small human ballast) which touched on the three areas of my life-work: caring, dying and grieving. Tune in, leave a comment. Here’s to many more experiences across communities enabling dialogue and action for what is inevitable.
Let’s keep the conversation alive.
